So just to clear the air . I havent shot my big revolver since November last year so I was a little Rusty and Crusty .
Oh and yes I had the 22 out also both of em my 6" and my 12" H&R … all shots at 50 yds.
Looks like I need some work …lol

That’s about what my 25yd target looks like, it doesn’t matter though my side arms are only for fighting my way to my long guns.
Well, I was shooting from the bench and I tend to want to heel the revolver when i do that . I do have it sighted in an 1" high at 50 and that tends to make my heeling worse.thw ones more in line with the bulleye I am holding as dead even as I can .or just below center as possible.
It is my hunting weapon. With fall here Hunting season is right around the corner
. I think I could do a better though.
I see 14 shots on that target and that was about all my hands wanted . I can shoot more did 30 the other day on friday but I think it sorta doomed me for a longer session yesterday.
The Long Gun is definitely the way to go to keep the zombies mowed down when it comes to that
Pistols seem complimentary to rifles and shotguns and I enjoy them all. Shotguns are fun, but rifles flipped my switch from the start.
Pistols just haven’t been that much of a passion like rifles are for me. I practice with em to be proficient, because I can’t take a rifle everywhere, and I enjoy that about pistols. Protection on demand.
Maybe I need to build a few and see if that doesn’t get me more charged up like rifles do.
I used to own some actual pistols . I currently dont own any. All my current items are hunting revolvers. I am like @creeker , @BillWaits , and @albroswift & @srdiver I really like a revolver platform. And although I can shoot someones eye out at 15 yards with one it has always been the reach of the revolver that has impressed me.
@WV460Hunter what a good topic, and nice to see someone getting to the range…still so hot here. Maybe next week for me. Plus, I pretty much concur with everyone’s comments. I have always looked upon my handguns as backups to my rifles and shotguns. But have owned a few handguns I would have felt comfortable for Varmint eradication, and maybe hunting with. Three that come to mind were a 4” 629, a 6” model 19, and the only one I still own, my custom 1911 45 acp. I already described my family squirrel hunting trip in which I took the heads off three squirrels, with three shots, from the ole 45…about 30+ years ago. The .357 I once hit a skimming/low flying duck at least 40 yards out in a family lake…many snake and turtle heads at 40+ yards. Crazy thing is I don’t remember ever shooting/sighting that gun on paper. The 44 had one of those double actions with a little catch in it right before the release…I could shoot it better in double than single action…and hit small targets easily at 40+ yards. But I had read that wasn’t the way a double action should work, or be shot, so I had a local smith work on…then ended up selling it soon after. And prior to my first eye surgery, 17 years ago, and later having to wear corrective lenses I would not own an EDC or CC that would not group at least 2” at 25 yards, with a picked load. And that included my Glocks. Today I can not see/use sites well enough to hit small things at 25 yards. Hope I haven’t run this one too long.

Honored to be included in such a group of shootists…
That turtle thing gives me ideas
I have seen a few snapping turtles this year. @BillWaits
No such thing as too long a post …love the input
I have a short story/experience concerning the toughness and character of the alligator snapping turtle…

I’ve probably killed more snakes with a revolver than anything other.
Lol, I know one of the most amazing things I’ve ever witnessed was my wifes 3rd cousin (R.I.P.) who was a competitive pistolero ( revolver) in his younger day. Well one fine summer day me and my wife and young children were at out family camp in Webster County WV . To say the least it is a rattlesnake haven. After arriving we started setting out supplies etc. Tent. Etc… when Our girls said hey can we ride our bikes ? ( mind you the oldest was probably 8 or 9 yrs. Old . ) my oldest came up screaming Daddy a snake a snake . Well I ran down to the porch on my father in laws camper . And seen nothing that I could readily see then she said it went under the porch. when I decided to look under the porch. I seen a huge Rattlesnake . Well, i didnt have my 22 heritage revolver yet so I was unarmed
My wife went up the road to her 3rd cousins house . ( who was about 54,55 yrs old.) And he showed up with a 22lr. Revolver. BUCK was his name
. Buck said now you take this 1/2" metal pipe and flick him out from under that porch and I will do the rest. I just did what I was told and while taking a flashlight and a 1/2 inch pipe I flipped it out and as he told me do it fast quick and hard and flip him outta there .There the snake lied coiled up under the porch and I will swear in a court of law while the snake was still in mid air and moving all about Buck pulled that Ruger 22 lr. And shot and it was dead hitting it right smake dab in the top of the head. My wife can verify this as she was looking on . I am still amazed at this feat as this wasnt a gentle push but a massive flinge on my part and a draw from the belt and dead eye shot performed with a bucket full of balls. I told old Buck man I cant hardly believe that … He just chuckled and we talk as we looked over the better that 4ft long rattler. For which I still have the rattles. Here I will take a pic.
@WV460Hunter Would you call that an 11 or 12 button killer/rattle snake? I remember Elmer Keith describing in one of his books an Incident while stepping over a brush pile, hearing a rattler, jumping up and shooting it in the head with his single action; before landing back on the ground. You can do just about anything with the right amount of expertise and practice.
Bill
I swear every single word of that story is true . I have a pic of that snake think it is on CD and my current computer dont do cd. But that bullet hole is dead in the top of the head . He shot a 454 of mine Ol’ buck said this thing kick I said yeah you might say that. Shoot . He fired first shot from about 40 yards and hit the dern bullseye to the left Right at the edge of the circle. …I was like crap I aint even gonna shoot behind that He already made me look bad. I think biggest he ever shot was a .44 mag a bear hunting buddy of his had. He was a huge moutian man worked for the state road , was Motor Grader operator, worked all the time cut fire wood by the truck loads for weeks and weeks during the summer. No one would have ever thought anything could take him down. Luekemia was his undoing. I miss him alot.
I also want to add that a friend of Bucks tanned rattlesnake hides and sold em to boot makers and when skinning out that rattler it had a 5" or 6" peter cottontail rabbit in its stomach. It was very surprising how round this snake was. Bucks brother Sonny shot and killed a 56" rattler that was as big around as your calf muscle as he discribed it, and as He told the story and warned me they tend to recoil even in their death throws and while reaching down to pull the rattles from the tail as he yanked on the rattles it recoiled up and he jerked to the right and it skimmed him across the left side of his face in the cheek area. . Ol’ Buck made sure I stood on its head as I pulled the rattles from the snake after his brother almost met his end from a dead recoiling snake.
You didn’t end up with a short digit did you?
