For home defense take a look at Ruger PC carbine. 9mm is going to be quieter out of that longer barrel.

Agreed. The PC is reasonably priced, very comfortable to shoot, and extremely reliable with any type of ammo. Mine has 1,500+ rounds through it with zero issues.
