I’ll add to my above, any time you are trying to harden low carbon steel, a water quench is usually REQUIRED. I made it sound like an option above, but it IS likely necessary for case hardening.
Thanks again @stimpsonjcat. I agree I hate that answer. I knew there had to be a reason and I couldn’t have been the first person to ask. I just figured it was their way of saying I don’t know.
That is why you never accept that answer, it means exactly that…they don’t know. Knowing is half of making.
Here’s some of my own forging work…
The leafs are something I’ve started doing to practice my hammer skills. Learned from watching Alec Steele on YT.
The knife and hook are things I made in a class many years ago. The guy who taught the class was on Forged in Fire in season 4.
