Army to replace 5.56 with 6.8mm

It is indeed high. It required a new alloy for the barrel to handle it. Not sure on the bolt if it is a new alloy or just high tech newr existing. Current 6.8 cartridges are normal pressure.

To @Quick_Draw_Mcgraw’s point the new cartridge is surprising in that it is a 6.8 x 51. The base is steel with the rest being brass. So it’s both heavy and expensive, it will accurately kill shit out to1300 yards, so there’s that.

It would seem to be unreloadable and the projo is a National Security issue currently. I doubt that will change soon. The closest civvies will get is the Sig Fury.
