Building a 2011 - Parts Suggestions?

I enjoyed the process of Build No. 1 so much that I’m going to build another. But this time I think I’d like a 2011 instead of the 1911.

Almost everything about the 2011 is the same as the 1911 except, obviously, for the grip related stuff.

I’m looking at a Cheely Custom frame and an Extreme Shooters small DVC STI grip. Has anyone paired those?

Did you find one?

Grips are short supply right now, low cost anyhow

Yes. Shooters Connection has them.

Maybe I had better order one soon?

I like Valkyrie Dynamics stuff and Wilson Combat. Those are my go to for parts.

Do those folks make 2011 parts?

My only experience with a 2011 was with a cheap plastic STI (I think?) Grip. I didn’t like it at all.

I’m afraid I won’t like a plastic grip either. Metal ones are very expensive. Maybe I’d be better off with a Government 9mm on an 80% frame. :face_with_monocle:

Would you consider going back and replacing the plastic with metal?

I’d stick with the 2011 they are well worth the build,

but get a grip,

2011 not 1911

It’s the best I could do…not many meteorite options out there for the 2011 yet.

I abandoned that 2011 build altogether.
But, if I were build another, I would go for a metal grip. Aluminum or steel. Limited 10 has made a titanium one too, but that is even more expensive.

After researching price points on certain parts I’m not sure I want to build one of these anymore
I don’t want a Sti grip
And any aluminum grip is well over the 400 dollar range
Some closer to 900
That’s just insane

I’m stuck at the same place. Steel grips are not cheap!

I still think I will do it one day…

Just buy a Remington r1 double stack.

I’d rather build than buy
And I’m not a fan of 80 series guns

Agreed

Well, I am in the land of 10 rounds. For me it is even less of a decision not to build a double stack. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Nope. As others have said, building is much more rewarding.

I just have to figure out what to build that can run in USPSA CO…
