For a short term $1k - $2k might do it. Possibly up to $5k in the safe just in case thing stay bad longer. Small bills as Festus pointed out.

@Chuparosa i would say 1 month of bill money.

@switchpod i would lean toward ammo first. I could protect myself and family and still eat.

It’s all a balance
Ammo would be king though

You should always have cash on you.
If you’re ever in Chicago and end up and Gene and Jude’s, your card won’t do you any good.
Cash only. No ketchup.

I keep about $1000 in cash at home and collect all the junk silver coln I come across. I also have a good stockpile of ammo.

  • Approximately $500 cash

  • weeks worth of toilet paper

  • shotgun & handgun with a few hundred rounds for each

  • 5 pounds of tobacco

  • 1 pound of good weed

  • a few months worth of rolling papers

  • 3 - 5 fifths of various brands of whiskey bourbon

  • a pack of naughty playing cards for the down time

image

  • a handful of suckers for a friendly game of poker

Then I’ll be good to go :sunglasses:

money comes in many forms

you have the cash on you, some in the bank, and maybe some in a brokerage account or credit union

you might also want some in gold or silver

Depends on the particular situation

I think we all missed a big premise though
When it actually happens your paper cash will be worth nothing and I mean nothing
You won’t be able to purchase goods and services with it at all

Ammunition on the other hand allows you to barter
And a harsh truth we all must face to take what we want as well

Well, maybe. I suppose there will be some that will still (at least for a while), take paper currency. But, with my suggestion, you would be ready for any scenario.

Let’s be clear - in a real SHTF scenario, you are likely to lose a lot of wealth, at least initially. How prepared you are, what you do, etc., will determine how much wealth you regain, or even gain.

Having a mix of different types of money (and wealth, such as real estate and guns), will help ensure you make it thru the hard times (though, nothing guarantees that).

Agreed

The nature of this thread is how much cash and how much diversification you should have
I stated that early on in this thread
But the mass majority of posters keep talking about paper money

The reality is paper money is garbage we all know it
I was just stating a opinion
