Copper Fighting Powders

Been giving some serious intention to going all mono for hunting. Along the way I’ve given some thought to locating powders that work well in multiple cartridges and also have anti fouling characteristics.

The first ones comes to mind is the CFE223 & CFE Pistol.

In looking around I discovered that all Vihtavuori powders produced currently have an added decoppering agent. That got me thinking about what else I don’t know about anti-fouling powders. So I am seeking knowledge on which works with what, and what are the pros and cons etc.

As learn I will post it, and hope others will too. Blaze away folks!

Which means?

Currently slang for going to an all Copper Alloy bullet. In most cases it is for game hunting only. Some locations it is the only type allowed. In my case it’s :100: about splatter ruined meat.

I’ve sent an email to Hodgdon for list or a link to list for theirs. I am hoping there are more CFE type powders than I have discovered.

BTW, Monos are particularly sensitive to CU fouling. To support this move I’m planning on going to PC WW or my own PC lead alloy for as many purposes as possible, other than game hunting.

So that’s a genuine thing?
I’ve had bone ruined, shoulder hit/splinters, but can’t really recall entry wound damage causing any loss, of course I’ve never hunted with 45acp ball either

Knew about them and CFE223. Hoping they’ve snuck it into a few more.

I would stock up on whatever you can get, I have been buying a lot of muzzle loader supplies. I have used the CFE Black, 223 and pistol for a long time, never really used it for precision loads just bulk loading to stock up on 5.56, 9mm, 308 and 40. The 5.56 and 308 loads always seemed to be pretty accurate with a basic charge and variety of bullets.

Nice to know thanks @rjburk. Probably good to do as well.

It doesn’t happen everytime, but a 143ELDX moving at 2800 ± and at less than 100 can go grenade on ya. Between bloodshot, bone shrapnel and zero core recovered except what is splattered, I’d say yeah. Granted I coulda gone with a neck or shoulder shot in these cases. A mono just makes it a nonproblem.

A 143 ELDX leaves my barrel at 3400 and it is like a TOW missile hitting a carload of goat loving terrorists…nothing but chunks :yep:
