Could use some opinions on an optic

Hello all,

So I have 2 rilfes, I very much like shooting. But I kinda want a red dot for for them. I don’t have a practical application, other than target shooting. Optics in general are a whole new world to me, I have no experience atm. And really don’t want to pay a a grand or two.

So I found a solar powered reddot off amazon for less that $100 bucks, and it seems to have all the features I want out of a red dot, and a one more besides. QD mounting (which is something I really need for my current living conditions), AA battery powered (want AA or AAA battery powered), and it even has a solar panel (something I that isn’t a must, but its on the ‘features I’d like to have, but can live w/out list’).

Here’s the only video I could find of it: https://youtu.be/M6Z4AXbZJK8. Outside the manufacturers install video I mean.

But I could use some experienced eyes here too. Is this sight just bad, and I’m too new at shooting to know better? Is this sight amazing? Is it pretty…meh?

I am presently running a sitemark ultra shot qd. 2000 battery hours with a ten minute shutoff if I forget to turn it off. Also the qd mount broke and I called them and they sent replacement parts immediately.

It’s probably going to be a very heavy sight. You’ll be taking your chances with quality as far as how well it holds a zero. But you also don’t know till you try. I’m sure others will have some good suggestions on some known optics for decent money.

Priary Arms Microdots
$130 with rotary knob

$170 push button

Sig Romeo 5
$160

These are better choices, imo. I like the rotary knob version more.

The Bushnell first strike is auto brightening. self adjusting depending on ambient light. Not a big deal for just target shooting Outdoors, but for other purposes, it would be very nice and bright outside where it’s sunny, and then down to a usable level indoors, clearing rooms Etc without having to manually adjust the brightness

What are the rifles this would go on? Does it have a lot of recoil?
I believe that NCSTAR/VISM was an airsoft accessory manufacturer that moved to real guns. Maintaining a zero and holding up long term could be a concern on a rifle with significant recoil.

We’ve been pretty happy with Holosun.
This being the solar option version I bought my wife for Christmas. Mine is older and not solar but lasts forever. Auto off. And turns on with movement.

I have heard good things about the Holosun as mentioned by @mquinn55. Personally, I run a Vortex Sparc AR and I’m very happy with the quality. They are under $200 with a lifetime warranty.

I have one on my wife’s AR. It works great so far. It’s only been there a couple of months so far.

I have a .22 and a 9mm rifle. I can’t afford a 5.56 rifle yet. I might not be able to do so until I can afford to move out of NY

Nice price! PSA has frequent sales on optics. I got my Vortex Sparc AR on sale there.

Yea, w/e I get would have to be under $120. If it had a QD mount built into it, I might be able to go to 130, but thats the real tippy top of what I can afford atm. If I could keep the total bill under 100, that’d be my goal.
