This one will drop public tomorrow but you guys here get it early. Been enjoying the Hawke LPVO on the Bersa rifle. I thought I would give it just a little stress and see what happened.
Today is a day of coincidences, this is just too much! Unbeknownst to me a friend has been pursuing the game of PRS 22 as I have been. Now you review one of the scope brands (though far from the same type of scope) that I’ve been looking at. The LGS thinks highly of that UK brand. I never heard of them before talking to the LGS.
FWIW I dropped the hammer on a different brand and more than I wanted to pay but with a 40% discount, yet still more than I wanted to pay. But I couldn’t turn the price down.
Hawke has been around for a long time. I have used them with several compeition 22s over the years. After a talk with them at NRRAM seems they have had a persistent media/marketing person issue. And the person that had that position during NRAAM has already moved on to another company. doesn’t matter how good your stuff is if nobody knows about it. that said, word of mouth is a strong way to advertise and they certainly have that going for them, within certain circles anyway. curious what brand you picked up.
The Brownells 5-25 x56 MPO. It lists for $1k and they had it on sale for $300 less, then I got another 10% off. I checked the reviews and was impressed. It didn’t take me long to buy one. I saw no way I could lose on the deal.
Hawke really didn’t have what I wanted for what I wanted to pay and I did check them. But I paid more than I wanted to pay anyway, just less than what Hawke wanted. I haven’t seen the scope I bought yet and in fact it hasn’t shipped yet. Or if it has Brownells has been silent on that.
I was looking seriously at an Arken EP5 but from the reviews I think I got far better than the Arken but I also paid more. I’ve been looking at scopes for NRL22 for months now and my looker was starting to get sore. But the MPO was precisely what I was looking for, or so I think it’s what I want. NRL22 is a new game for me and I have a lot to learn. I think I have a good start, but for a game it’s maybe as much as I ever want to spend on it. I see no bringing it into the real world as I do with the other competition I also shoot in (USPSA and Steel Challenge).
It’ll be fun. I have lots of work to do and maybe NRL22 will start back up again locally. But I intend to be ready if it does.
thanks for the details, not really familiar with the brownells line but a 5-25x56 is a beast, not much 100+ you can’t do with those specs for sure
I knew nothing about it either. No one suggested it to me then there it was in my inbox. I have a history with Brownells and I knew they don’t sell garbage so I dug into it. The rest is history. I was actually surprised that no one suggested the scope based on what I found out. But again, I don’t have it in hand so what I’m writing is based on what I dug up.
Now that is a great review I would love to see a drop test .
Let me ask you thos @CloverTac what is the ability of that brand to take recoil.
Over the years nothing has seemed to affect my stuff more than recoil. Is it rated like up to 30-06 or less
i have not seen anyone do anything with hawke on larger cartridge stuff… that said, hawke is know big time in the air gun industry and i have seen air guns kill what most would consider really good brand scopes. i would not have an issue trying it out. i am not one to intentionally try to break things, never have been, i try to show everyday, normal use and what one can expect. obviously if you keep dropping stuff or running it over or setting it on fire or whatever, the odds increase you gonna screw it up no matter what it is. all that said, i am NOT nice and polite and easy on my guns, never have been (well, with the expection of some old girls, collectible, etc) this bersa obviously does not fit those categories and niether does this scope, so it has slid off shooting tables, bumped around in the back seat of the truck, clanked togerther with other guns in my pull cart, etc… again, normal use type stuff. as mentioned earlier, this is not the first or only Hawke i own, the other have taken the same abuse for close to if not a decade or more and still rocking on.
I have one on a 6.5 creedmoor . Not that it has much recoil but the scope holds zero and it as clear as any I have seen in the same price range.
