History of Federal Premium 30-06 Ammo

Established in 1922 by then company president Charles L. Horn, Federal Ammunition has been a leader in ammo development and innovation for a century. And their Federal 30 06 ammo continues this legacy of accuracy, precision, and stopping power.

The 30-06 Springfield round has made a name for itself as one of the top sporting cartridges across the globe. Considered by many as the quintessential 30 caliber sporting round, Federal 30 06 pays homage to that legacy with its Federal Premium 30-06 ammo.

Crafted with the finest components and charged with precision, Federal Premium 30 06 is offered in multiple bullet configurations for your ideal big game hunting round:

  • Swift Scirocco
  • Nosler AccuBond
  • Trophy Copper
  • Sierra GameKing
  • Barnes TSX
  • Berger Hybrid Hunter

With all these different bullet options, there’s no game animal across the North American continent that can stand up to Federal 30 06 ammo.

Developed in 1906 by Springfield Armory and the US military, the 30-06 Springfield was the de facto replacement for the 30-40 Krag round. Capable of firing bullets upwards of 220 grains at nearly 2,500 FPS, Federal 30-06 ammo has proven to be extremely effective for any large game animal in North America. Although the 220 grain offerings are powerful, most hunters prefer the lighter and faster 180 grain Federal 30 06 ammo for deeper penetration.

Federal 30-06 ammo comes in several varieties:

  • Fusion
  • Power-Shok
  • American Eagle

Federal 30 06 Fusion was specifically designed for deer hunting while Power-Shok offers shooters an affordable jacketed soft point hunting round that won’t punch holes in your wallet. Federal 30 06 American Eagle comes in two different varieties, standard and M1 Garand.

Standard American Eagle Federal 30-06 ammo is great for practice in your modern bolt action, lever action, and single shot rifles.

M1 Garand American Eagle is the best Federal 30 06 ammo for the gas operated WWII staple, the M1 Garand. As these rifles require lower pressure rounds, Federal 30 06 M1 Garand American Eagle is specifically formulated to operate within safe pressure bands that won’t bend your op rod.

After 9/11 when I rebuilt the firearms stash. (had one handgun before that).

I bought 120 rounds of AE Garand rounds. I fired them in the Garand, then reloaded them all 5 times, shooting them to find a load.
Then I took the same 120 cases and used them in the bolt gun.
I used them until I was down to 76 cases. The rest had spilt necks OR blown out primer pockets.
The other 76 cases were narrowed down to 50 and reloaded for a lady friend that said she would not fire her 30-06 unless the SHTF.

That is getting your monies worth.
I since then have converted to Lake City cases for my own ammo storage.

Glad to hear you had a positive experience with Federal. As a Minnesotan, it’s a point of especial pride to me. Lake City’ll do you right too – at least they’re in the right area, as far as I’m concerned.
