@Chuparosa,
Let me go into the Vault and grab some various shotgun loads in 20 gauge, I think you’ll like it I’ll toss up a pic in a minute.
Yep! I’m a huge 20ga fan so lets see it! I’m so low at the moment I’m almost embarrased to show what I’ve got… That and we’re really low on stock right now.
@20gaugefans.
I would like to point out the Herter’s double round ball load, that’s 2, 54 caliber round balls @1250 feet per second absolutely devastating Home Defense round! I can’t tell if the resolutions any good on your end or not the two boxes of Spartan are number 1 buck shot very hard to find and get, I don’t shoot a lot of it cuz it’s almost impossible to find for me.What the fuck?! Those are huge … that’s what she said.
Oh hell yea I want to shoot some 5gal water jugs with some of those.
Yeah they’re Wicked,
I just looked at the underside of the Box they are .54 caliber x 2 sorry for the confusion.
Does anybody know if 2 .64 caliber balls would actually fit inside even a 12 gauge?
Aren’t old flintlock pistols around that caliber?
Good advice here. Really, the only ammo you should store should be for “SHTF”, in which case I personally believe in 2x your carry load-out. Thats about 360 rifle and 160 pistol rounds personally. If you can’t carry it with you, it’s useless. For a “stay and play” idea, 1000 of your major rifle caliber and 500 pistol or shotgun would be enough. I don’t see pistol or shotgun as versatile as rifle. Once you have those numbers (or something close enough for satisfaction), put them aside and just buy your range ammo as you see fit.
I agree, but what about another ammo crisis? That’s what we’re worried about. We have to still be able to train. Right?
True enough. I wasn’t huge into guns during the last big ammo crisis, so I haven’t felt the impact of one. But… dry fire exists. And as someone who gets to the range maybe 4 times a year, dry fire, draw practice, and position repetition are all a fantastic training aid.
1000 each is a nice number, but not very accurate. 1000 rounds of 9mm isn’t the same as 1000 rounds of .50 bmg. Before I was reloading I would buy ammo on sale, when I could. The great ammo famine made that change. I ended up with nearly 10k rounds of 9mm built up. Determine what you use and how long will that last and go from there. Then consider reloading.
.223 2000 ,556 1300, 45acp 2000,.380 1000,.38/.357 500 ,44mag. 100,.22lr 6000, 12 gauge 1000 ,20 gauge 250 ,.270 500, and .243 200.
@Chuparosa,
Looks absolutely devastating, do you happen to know the length of that gel block, I’m curious as to the depth of penetration?
I try to keep at least 500 rounds per hunting rifle, 270wsm, 25wssm, 25-06, 12ga& 20ga shot shell. 250rnds 20ga sabot slugs for bolt shot guns. 10krnds 9mm& 45acp. 15krnds 5.56 & 7.62×39.10krnds22lr.
I would say as many as you want to afford and then store properly. And if they come up with that 50% tax youll be glad you did and besides in most cases a firearm without ammo is nothing more than a pretty show piece. Oh dont forget about proper storage, could be a nasty mess if you had a fire. Not that anyone we know has had one.
SAK67:
12 gauge is .72 caliber (unchoked) - roughly the same as a dime.
I thought normal 20 gauge (unchoked) is .56 caliber. Maybe they made the balls a little smaller just in case you use some minor choke.
5,000 .22 LR - though I’m below that by 800 or so and have to resupply.
2,000 EDC pistol (9mm for me - I don’t reload for semi-autos)
600 rounds for my target pistol (.38 Spl - reloaded as necessary)
500 for each of the hunting rifles (I reload these as well - so these may be in the form of components)
I probably only have 250 rounds of 20 ga for my SxS grouse shotgun. Have to fix that.
I do have over 100 SST sabot slugs and another 100 lead slugs for my 1187 12 ga. deer slug gun
I have 50 lbs of black powder for my two flintlocks. 100 lbs of shot and similar weight in lead for casting balls. Over 200 flints - that turned out to be a better investment than my 401(k).
And two SPAM cans (440 rds each) of 7.62x54R for my Mosins plus some loose - maybe 100 rounds currently.
Misc other rounds of maybe 100 to 300 per in calibers I don’t shoot much - .303 Brit, .357 Mag, .45 ACP, .22 WRM, .22 Hornet, .30-40 Krag & 12 ga shot.
And then we see the media reporting an “arsenal” found with six guns and 1,000 rounds of ammo.
You wouldn’t happen to have any empty cans or crates I could buy off of you for display purposes?
