I got a nice bonus check from work because we met all our quotas for the first quarter. The wife let me spend some of MY bonus on ammo.
Freedom Munitions is running a special $5 flat fee shipping in the US for any orders over $200. I just ordered 1000 rounds of 9mm for USPSA and a fresh box of self defense 9mm. The 9mm at FM is almost back down to pre-COVID prices and they have really good deals on some of their SD 9mm ammo. Getting new ammo in the mail is almost as good as picking up a new gun at the FFL.
Now if they could just get .357 and .38 SPC back down to normal prices.
“Make it right here in the sink”
Cool thing about rolling your own, your price date can be from decades ago. Average price per round for 30WCF is 15 cents.
45/70, a quarter, and 30-06 35 cents.
I do reload some but I don’t feel like my reloads are up to “competition” standards. Good enough for plinking at the range but still not quite as accurate as store bought. Each batch has been an improvement though so maybe someday.
Great minds think alike, just not FM. I’ve been waiting for Fed’ Auto Match .22 to come down in price and have a case coming in today by brown truck. It’s what I use for Steel Challenge. The timing was the pits but my $ fund will eventually get caught up.
Botach had Sylvan Arms folding buffer tube adapters on sale and I almost dropped the hammer on one. It’s another item I’ve been waiting for, but I didn’t. Some folks have had failures with the Sylvan Arms folder, but it’s gotta be better than the air soft folder that I’ve been using and that’s worked for years. Heck, I’m not an operator. I already have and use one and it’s working fine. Botach allows us to bid on items and when my $ fund gets flush again I’ll make them an offer on one.
Be careful with Boach, their CS is the worst I have ever dealt with and sometimes they sell stuff not in stock and wait time becomes a bit ridiculous, they held an entire $500+ dollar because a hat I ordered was out of stock, it ended up taking almost 3 months to get the stuff I ordered, but they sure charged my credit card.
Just my .02, others’ mileage may vary, but I rate them below Optic Planet.
Botach had been much better about having stuff in stock since they moved out of California. Their CS does suck for the most part but I haven’t had any problems with them in a few years.
That’s cool, it has been years since that debacle, I just stopped dealing with them, too many other places to buy from. But as you said they got out of California, right there is a step back toward sanity.
Maybe if I came across something I need and it is cheap enough I will give them another shot, they did used to have good prices.
1/2 a century ago I thought Federal was just crap. I wouldn’t touch the stuff for all that time. Then the left started destroying the left coast in their peaceful riots and simultaneously I needed .22 ammo. I saw a decent price for Auto Match and despite some armchair commandos talking it down I bought a mess of it. So far all I’ve used it in is my Charger SBR and KelTec CP33 but both guns love the stuff. I go through a lot of it. I haven’t tested it in anything else.
Right now I’m testing everything on the shelf in the SBR with the new TacSol barrel and Federal Champion is a tackdriver out of that ultra lightweight gun, just testing the gun and leaving myself out of it as much as possible. Groups hover between 3/8" and 1/2" at 45 yards. But I haven’t tested everything on the shelf. Some ammo that I thought should be great just sucked (Federal Target).
I have been really disappointed with Winchester in the .22 ammo department for several years. Their quality control is just crap when it comes to .22. I’ve even had loose bullets come out of the casings a few times. They’re so bad now, they make Remington Golden Bullets look good by comparison.
