Leather Gun Belt for Fullsize Heavy Gun?

My current belts don’t seem to support the weight of my fullsize 1911, Glock 34 and mags all that well. The one that works the best, although still not that great, is my heavy duty, nylon Klik Belt. It’s too tactical for my tastes, although it’s a comfortable and functional belt otherwise. My other belts are a Desantis and an Urban Carry belt, the latter of which has bowed a bit in the middle. They’re decent belts when I don’t carry, though.

So I thought I’d bite the bullet and splurge on a quality leather belt. I’ve narrowed it down to three so far - Armour Belts, TheBeltman, and Mean Gene Leather:

Beltman and MGL have an inner reinforcement option, but I don’t know if the Armour Belt also has that option. Even so, the Armour Belt appears to be a bit thicker at 5/16” thick. So that might compensate for the lack of a reinforcement insert. But I wonder if the thickness might make it harder for holster clips and snap-on holster loops and such?

Anyway, does anyone have any experience or thoughts on any of these?

I wear a Galco daily and its good but if you want great it seems you pretty much need a competition belt

I’m not familiar with competition belts. I’m guessing these are thick, nylon and velcro belts? I’m looking for something to wear with jeans, shorts and slacks that’ll better hold the weight of a 1911 in an IWB or OWB and a spare mag. Would also like to use it at the range for my Glock 34 with an OWB and spare mag. I’m guessing the leather belts I mentioned are probably not good enough for competition, but would they be good enough to EDC a 1911 without sagging much?

For EDC, I currently use a Blade-Tech Ultimate Carry Belt. It comfortably supports my relatively heavy CZ P-01. I’ve used the belt for about 9 months and it’s holding up fine. It is made in China, however.

Yes, most competition belts are thick two-piece units that Velcro together. My Safariland competition belt is heavy-duty and will support almost anything, but it’s not very comfortable when sitting.

5.11 tactical belts are my preferred daily carry belt.

I have a steel core leather belt from Relentless Tactical. It might have been overkill, but I had been shocked that my single-piece, thick leather belt wasn’t holding up well with my Glock 19, so to steel core I went. Plus, it was on clearance with only a near-invisible scuff.

I agree with @Sarge4206th (wash my mouth out with Dawn dish soap) I LOVE the 5.11 belts!

Looks like they have a wide variety of belts. Which 5.11 belt do you have?

I use a kydex lined belt from ConcealmentSolutions.com

Well I guess I’m old school, I never really liked the nylon belts for me.
I prefer good old fashion quality leather from Galco or Wilson Combat ( Mitch Rosen)

Do you know any websites on leather and what is vegetable leather?

Absolutely! When it comes to a leather gun belt for a full-size heavy gun, quality is key. You might want to check out (link clipped by admin). They have a reputation for crafting durable and stylish leather goods. Their gun belts should provide the support you need without compromising on style.
