My next build may be a 2011. Are there "watch outs?"

After a Government 1911 in 45 and another in 9mm, with a Commander in 9mm on the bench, I’m considering a 5" .45 2011 build next.

Are there any “watch outs” I should be thinking about?

The 2011 uses a different trigger, magazine release, ejector pin and MSH pin. Make sure to order correct parts.

And I didn’t like the plastic STI grip.

Plastic does not belong on good pistols. But metal grips are very expensive!

Agreed, and why I ultimately decided to not finish the 2011 I was building. If I went with metal grip I would have finished it and kept it around for sure.

I’ve often thought of building the frame and slide I have here but it just doesn’t financially fit my budget
And when aluminum or metal grips cost 800 and up they can keep it

What kinds? For sale?

Excuse my ignorance, but are you referring to grips, as in hand grips? Flat, 2 screwholes, one on each side?

I have a limited 10 frame and a caspian slide

And no don’t think I want to sell them just yet

This is what a 2011 grip module looks like
And as mosin stated the plastic ones suck

Thanks, I thought you were speaking of 1911 style grips. For that kind of cash, some of us should quit our day jobs to start manufacturing!!

I agree metal is always better. What is the issue with the plastic modules? Flex? Weak ?

Stress cracks really easy and they just feel generic and clunky

I felt the flex and they felt “cheap”
