It all depends on the firearm. Obviously a revolver gets a pass on this, but so do some others “ there’s always exceptions to the rule”.
It also depends on when the firearm was imported. If it came to the U.S. “don’t quote me on this” before 1986 it would not have any import marks or added safety garage on it.
