New user from across the pond

Hi everyone!
I am from the UK and have taken up shooting about 15 years ago. Anything shooting related is quite restrictive here, but I try to shoot whatever firearm/discipline I can get my hands on (legally!). Before the current plague I used to get to the US about 2-3 times a year and take part in comps… sadly that’s on hold now.

Welcome! This’ll all be over soon. As soon as the election is over people will start listening to different ’science’.

About 40 miles to the West of London…
I am lucky to have the UK National Shooting Centre nearby with ranges out to 1200yards - not that I have any rifle that is good for the distance…

Welcome to the forum!

What sort of comps do you shoot? Some of us here also shoot competition. I shoot USPSA Action Pistol with a 9mm PCC SBR (yes, I’m aware that a PCC is NOT a pistol  ) and Steel Challenge with a .22 SBR.

PCC SBR = pistol caliber carbine short barreled rifle

Welcome from California, USA.
I always wonder if many people in UK want to get the same firearms rights as we do here.

Comps? basically, if it goes bang I’ll do it…
Main competitions are:

  • CSR (civilian service rifle)
  • Gallery Rifle - basically pistol competitions converted to UK legal guns
    • underlever and straight-pull rifles chambered in pistol caliber (low muzzle energy)
    • .22rf rifles
    • long-barrel pistol and revolvers (minimum length, so can’t be concealed - have a coat hanger style extension on the grip…)
    • .22rf is the only caliber allowed for semi-auto!
  • Practical Shotgun
  • 2-Gun/3-Gun
  • next thing will be PRL …but I have to get another gun for that - my .308 is not good enough any more

I don’t do that weird type of target shooting with bondage gear, where the guys strap themselves into an awkward position to fire 5 or 10 rounds in 30 minutes!!

Sorry about California…
We aren’t allowed proper pistols, but we can still have unlimited magazine sizes (for now).

We don’t do that here either…hopefully not. :grimacing:

That is sad and it pisses me off to see anyone having their rights restricted (You have them even if they aren’t acknowledged.). So the powers that be don’t remember the begging that they did for small arms during WW2? Do they even father their own children? (Notice how I asked that without the use of a 4 letter word? It took incredible restraint. I was going to write, “Do they do their own ______ing?”, but I didn’t. )
