Anyone ever get one?

Surprisingly not as much to it as I expected,

Prepped an extra freezer for it,
may have got by without it but didnā€™t know that before hand

7 boxes about 40#s each, close to half burger

Galloway breed, the steaks have nice fat in them, all local, we toured the farm it was raised, my daughter is in 4H raising a steer so that was neat, she also got to tour the slaughterhouse, she got to watch them kill a couple of cows

We have a prime rib aging in the fridge for Christmas dinner, I did one for Easter some years back, let it smell the fridge for a few days, it was a success so giving it another go!

We had one done this fall too . It was a black baldy ended up at around $3 a pound .

Ours was bought advertised at $2.00 hanging weight, paid rancher for 422.5#s and butcher for 447.5#s

Got home, counted 280#'s

No one told the newbie about the difference between hanging weight and package weight

A black baldy is a cross of Angus and Holstein they have a black body and white head . The thing weighed 1200 pounds live weight and we bought half at $1.65 a pound and butcher cost $250 . It pays to know people.

Should have been a cross between Angus and hereford. Looking at 2 of those out in the pasture right now. We had the neighbors hereford bull in with the Angus cows a while back.

Here the dairy farmers run Angus bulls with thier Holsteins. So that is what we call a black baldy . The beef breeds they tend to try and stay with the same breed .
