This is the reason i really want to keep the house up in the woods.
Two Squirrels living in the same woods, One collected nuts for the winter, the other frolicked thru the land.
Come winter that party animal died of stavation.
Moral of the story. DONT get caught without your nuts
for the winter.
I hope Belt-Fed see’s this…I think he has been missing his nuts for a long time.
Starting to move the chickens and turkeys outside for short breaks. They are friwing fast. Glad I bought them… especially with the new chicken virus and the price of eggs they say are going to go up dramatically.
This of course will effect everything… think about all the things that are made that use eggs…
My sweetie picked this up… free. . .
Needs some work but has roofing. This will be the new chicken coop. The old coop will be for the turkeys
Smart use of those crates
Vice (i know, i know, but this series is in alignment with us, bion) has a new series “While the Rest of us Die” on the VICE ch on cable.
Just watched the episode “food”, or something like it.
All about how all of out meat, fowl now comes from 4 companies, out veggies are all the same now and people should start seed sticking, monsanto, bill gates (now the largest farm land owner in the country, etc.
Nothing good. An expert says in our life time we will lose almost all of crops not gmo or has had its genetics changed.
So you’ve written enough recently to prompt to go buy some birds despite not being ready, which is the normal anyhow, we went to tractor supply, got a few, get to the counter, girl asks for a phone number, I guess for rewards and I said we don’t do those, she says no, for the chicks, to which I firmly indicated I wasn’t giving a number to buy chickens, well we need it for the address, where they’ll be for the flu, lol, the poor girl quickly got the point, put in some number she dreamed up, put the address as “customer won’t give address rd.”, she was a great sport about it, makes me happy some people are still real,
Insert area code 867 5309
During covid in New Mexico to eat inside a restaurant you had to supply contact info. I told the girl I was Alan Parsons and my phone number was 502 867 5309. Went right over her head.
The Mrs and I visited one place like that, we put down Donald and Melania Trump, the waitress never said a word, the girl today was sharp enough to work with me quick, did her best with me, she even joked at least they weren’t making the chickens wear masks… at least I think it was a joke
Sad part, despite all this song and dance I still used plastic to buy it
Picked up 22 more chickens for a $1 and picked up 2 more turkey for $5.50 for both.
Talked to a budy of mine, he is mixing and grinding his own chicken chow. Saves money and gets the GMO out of my food as much as possible.
I know I paid much more than a buck today
I’d be interested to know more on that as I haven’t even begun to buy feed yet
Chickens are easy… so are turkey but turkey need a LOT more protine in their diets.
So my budy is doing a mix. Field peas, barely, oats, sunflower seeds.
He grinds it, soaks it in water for 24 hours, then feeds it. He us running over 100 chickens now and 6 turkeys like I am.
I have hopefully 5 broiding hens… i have on order more… but they have not come in yet.
I wnat to be able to keep the chickens going on their own… without an incubator.
Incubators are $125 here. Not bad… but need power.
The company Scratch and Peck is based out of Washington and make great chicken feed. No GMOs…
I will not be feeding my chickens GMO because I am eating them or their eggs.
Ok, i am serious aboyt food production. My chicken coop is cute, but if i am doing chickens and turkeys i need space. While I cannot live off if eggs alone, i need brooding chickens to hatch me some McNuggets.
So… up goes another coop that is big enough to handle a LOT of chickens.
First
Thing was to assemble the aluminum roof structure my sweetie picked up for us at her job…
Next was to dig holes, figure out how to get it up on top of 8 foot posts by myself.
What I did was use 10 foot 4x4 ground contact posts buried 26 inches sitting on top of 2 inch thick concrete pads
Next i installed one side of the legs, then heaved it up bracing it. Then balancing on a ladder, installed the last 2 posts.
The aluminum frame is about 250 pounds… it taxed me…
Next I squared it up the best I could then back filled, tamping the soil as I went.
By the photos, you can see that my neighbor is RIGHT there. This will make it so he cannot see me, i cannot see him… for the most part.
It will also help with the noise from his log truck… LOL
He’s gonna love the rooster…
Geese make pretty good watch critters btw.
Litterly fooock him. I hope my rooster wakes that bastard up each day.
Why?
Because trucker boy fires up his big rig at 1 am or 3 am… then lets it fast idle for 30 to 45 MINUTES…
Then he takes off snorting his throttle…
If I turn on my lights, ge gets the hint and takes off. But I am still awake!!
Some how I knew…
