Just looking around for hunting shotgun ideas. I just want one to use for occasional trap/skeet and be pretty good for any bird hunting. One jack of all trades shotgun for under $2,000
I don’t have much preference on action type, but I’m leaning for an O/U.
I’ve shot a lot of skeet 10 years ago with a mossberg 500 and remingotn 870, but I want something nice to last me a lifetime.
I like my dad’s Ruger Red Label.
A lot if the guns coming out of Turkey now days are very well made.
I use My 870 or my semiauto Churchill 20ga(Turkish)
My neighbor had a closet full of wore out Remingtons, he shot trap and skeet. Remington sponsored him. he worked for them and retired with them. he was Arkansas champion for many years. he is in the Arkansas trapshooters hall of fame. think i have posted his pic and story here before. He went bird huntin everyday after work, i went with him a few times. he never missed. guy shot millions of rounds through shotguns.
For a USA made weapon, Mossberg. I would not buy a Remington unless it was a Versa Max (made by Benelli)
Benelli i love and i have thousands of shells through mine. The Turkish guns are actually good… CZ and some name brand units are made there. I had an over n under for over a decade. Great gun.
Browning is excellent and so is Beretta. Cannot go wrong with them.
With a big budget of 2k… you can get a really nice one. So pick one that just fits and feels light out at the end. Mossberg is heavy, i usually use those for “combat” use…
I only hunt with my Benelli ultra light semi auto. Love that gun…
My son has a Beretta, super fast n light… i enjoy using it.
I also have a TriStar… made in Turkey. Fast n light, simple. Cheap too.
What i have used besides my Mossberg and Benelli M1 is my Remington Versa Max. It is really a Benelli M4, parts interchange… i have even used it for trap n skeet but it is not a "hunting " setup. With a 9 shell capasity…
They make a few Mossberg 500s that are really nice. Hard to beat them really.
Skeet or trap, wing or hoof, 2 or 4 legs.
When we show up with one - the conversations start too.
The usual is “why do you still use them” Because they were my Grandfathers then my Fathers and they would want me too!.
Just an old school pair that has fed and defended my family for many decades.
