What motivated you to arm yourself?

If I had to guess, she’s not carrying yet because she still isn’t confident with her knowledge of her firearm. Women tend to want more detailed information about the workings of a gun including exactly how it can and cannot hurt her or someone else. Unless she intends to hurt them, that is. Try to get her on this forum and talking to other women who have had the same experience and how they learned to overcome and build the much needed confidence for concealed carry.

My wife isnt on here. So I will share for her since it was mostly her idea to get somthing for self defense.

Coming home late at 11:30 pm to watch the ball drop on new years eve, we were attacked. We were driving and there was a group of 4 to 5 grown men in the road. Throught they needed help so I slowed down. We were in a Ranger truck. Upon stopping they started punching the truck and hanging onto it. Now I grew up a scrapper before I met Ashley. There was a blunt blunt block of wood in the back specifically for ass whoopin. I grabbed it and was about to get out when she grabbed my arm and yelled “NO”! I had not noticed they were armed with brass knuckles clubs and a crow bar. They started wailing on the truck and one of them went for my wife’s door. I locked it literally as he pulled the handle putting the door in that partially open but locked stage. I slammed the truck in drive clipping 1 of them and shaking the rest off. Both of us fumbled with our phones to call 911 but right up the road there was a state trooper! I pulled a u turn and got him to pull over. I explained to him what happened. Pointed to my shaking wife, the damaged truck, and the men fleeing up the road. You know what he did? NOTHING. He called local pd who arrived after 10 minutes. They took pictures and shot the shit about new years stories that were “better than ours”. I fixed and sold the truck to an out of towner in fear someone would retaliate to me hitting then with the truck. We talked and that week I came home with a Glock 19.
That was the start. Now she likes to shoot but I personally have made it my “thing”.

Reason we really bought was because minutes after we flagged the cops down, and elderly couple walked by arm in arm. All we could thing was “what if we haven’t been there”? or " what if we were walking? This was an eye opener that the PD is made up of people. People with a job. And just like at walmart, some people could give a crap about doing their job quickly and efficiently.

We were lucky more than anything. You think you would function well under stress like that till something happens. Then just unlocking your phone is a struggle. This is why I get my range time in so much. Muscle memory.

Hi. Festus referred me here. But when I tried to reply I got a message saying I had to wait 9 hours. Not sure why that is. Maybe I talk too much.

Anyway it was an old boyfriend of mine that got me interested in guns. He was a big gun guy and would take me shooting in the desert. I liked it and never stopped.
I do carry but more because I can. In Arizona we can carry open or concealed almost anywhere. I carry concealed most the time now cuz people seem to be getting weird about even seeing a gun.

This seems to be a good forum. I’ve got a lot of reading to do. I haven’t hunted but wouldn’t mind trying it some time. Small gave and varmit first. So I’ll see what’s in the hunting section.

Hi@CrazyJ, what is your EDC? And how do you carry it?

Mine is the Springfield EMP and I carry at about 2:45 -3:00. I recently got an M&P shield that I’m still working on getting the accuracy with. Not sure it’s me or the gun, probably me. But I ordered a bore sight just in case.

Hi. It depends a lot on what I plan to do for the day. Most often I have a Rugar LCP in my purse. Even when I carry holstered. That is usually a Glock 19.

That’s good. I don’t carry a purse most of the time, so always on body. I’d prefer appendix but so far it’s not working out. I print too much (belly is too round :joy:)

I’ve had struggles with printing and finally had to give up certain types of clothes. I’ve even resorted to making some clothes. I find structured tops with prints and darker fabrics work well. T-shirts are right out. They drape right around the gun. If I were skinny, this would be easier, :joy::joy:

Been shooting since I was 5… a gun is just a daily tool for me be it a 4 legged or 2 legged varmint to take care of! Hint of the day: DO NOT shoot a skunk with a .380 hollow point while downwind…

Sounds like that was a stinky situation…

Very stinky… took 3 days to wear off… normally shoot them with a 22 but I had gone out to dump garbage and he was right there 30 feet from me during daylight. Not typical and probably rabid…

I shot one with the 22 i the spine, didn’t do much damage. SO I propped it up in the garbage so it looked like it was leaping at you when the lid was opened. Garbage man swore for 10 minutes straight and said he would get me back! I know him and we shoot together sometimes so expecting a hot load one of these days with no warning LOL

That needs to be in bold print at the top of this section. That is exactly what i tell my daughter. Don’t be a victim.

I had my permit but was uncomfortable carrying all the time. UNTIL - I was at Dollar General with my God-daughter while a man with a gun, who had just walked in behind us, robbed the cashier. The cashier screamed and the manager quickly escorted us to the back. Not that I could have changed the circumstances had I been armed, but the feeling of helplessness and responsibility for my young God-daughter overwhelmed me. Think of the variables in the situation! If he had come at us, I would have been utterly defenseless. That was a sobering feeling and that did it for me for life! I carry now!
