Why is the IWI Tavor not more popular?

They’ll shoot flatter and with greater accuracy though.

Flatter? How so?

I have been interested for years in a Tavor-because I do not want to SBR an M4 and because they look cool. Friends who own them love them and nobody expects them to out-shoot a stock M4. I will absolutely invest in an X95, but when I get one the M4 is still the go-to piece. I think the IDF is the only military that uses it general-issue, but their special forces use the M4. Any IDF guys on here?

Depends, the Tavor is nothing super special in terms of barrel, trigger, fit or finish. For $1500 you could easily find a BCM or DD which are on par with something like the Tavor. The high end precision guns are not really comparable to the Tavor which seems to be more of a run and gun/CQ weapon. The one I shot was nice and I have zero complaints with the one I handled and have read very few negative reviews.

I agree , High end AR15s run far better barrels and triggers. For more $ though.

Why the IDF chose the Tavor over the M4:(obviously a bias source but still a good read)

Here is a discussion we had on why the IDF commandos might be switching back to M4s from the Tavor. Its apples to oranges, really.

I was wondering what the Scar/Bren offer people that the Tavor dosnt?

A tuned AR will have much flatter recoil impulse than a Tavor.

Need to remember, weapons systems like the X95 are purpose built for a reason. They’re not made for long range, not built for medium range. They are built for close quarters, within buildings where other carbines don’t do as well. The carbine was built for urban combat because your standard rifle was too long. While a carbine works well in urban combat, once in a building it starts to get a little long. Even with a 14" barrel. Comparing the X95 to lets say a 20" Grendal is like comparing a Hummer to a Vette. Sure, the Vette does better on the road, but the Hummer does better off road.

Just my 2 cents.

now I understand. I thought you were referring to flatter trajectory not less recoil.

Yeah, when I saw your comment I immediately knew what you thought. I shoulda phrased my original comment differently.

I have seen this for what it’s worth.

There is a lot more articles on this you can just enter scar 17 problems.

For the record I have not experienced any problems running them, but my experience with them is low round counts.

I’m a big IWI/IDF supporter but…
Some old guys won’t buy a Star Wars Blaster.
We’re funny like that.

So I picked up a SCAR heavy when they first came out. I was very excited…
Then I went to the range. 3" group at 100 yards with a Trijicon Acupoint 5-20x50 on Nightforce rings. This was many years ago, I believe it was on both Winchester and Black Hills ammo… different weights. Then it pissed me off I could not readily pick up mags…

Just thought I would point out that the SCAR is actually growing in popularity but like HKs offerings , its overpriced to most people.

Heres a list of various countries LE and military that use the platform. There are at least a half dozen more not listed on wiki.

Also, Team FNH USA uses the SCAR in 3 gun competitions.

I have a SAR Tavor with 18" barrel,Im also a M4 Fan.But my Tavor with a Trijicon Acog on shoots from contact range out of a vehicle right to hitting gongs at 300 & 600 yrds.I think its great. It ia alittle pricey but I purchased mine used and it has been great. An SBR without the ridiculous tax.
