Winchester/Western Cartridge Box Date Codes

I am still searching for various dates for the 44-40 cartridge boxes.

However, if anyone has any older Western “Target” cartridges boxes of any caliber, I’d like to get the ink stamp code and a photo of the bottom label. I am trying to put together a list with photos from 1927 to whenever.

What I have can be seen here: Winchester/Western/UMC(REM) 44-40 Ammunition Box Labels - Google Sheets

crickets…

I did get some Remington/UMC date codes gathered up here: Winchester/Western/UMC(REM) 44-40 Ammunition Box Labels - Google Sheets

and updated the 44-40 website with Remington information here: Chasing the 44-40 - UMC/Remington

These box codes apply to all cartridges.

does it have the ink stamp code on the inside of one of the flaps? It is at least 1946ish

This is on the underside of the inner box… “79” and then underneath that
“MADE IN USA”

No, should be an ink stamp code on the inside of one of the end flaps.

Sorry, outer box that flap is missing. I would agree that 1946ish seems about right. My dad returned from WW2 and probably was able to buy ammo again, and he did a lot of hunting after that (mostly duck and pheasant)
